Barrel Connectors

BC1.3 is a set of 10 Stainless-steel barrel connectors and an allen key, cleaned for UHV use. These are intended for wiring  Ø1 to 1,5mm diameter pins or wires but are adaptable to many other uses.

Wire Bushings

PWB is a set of 4 PEEK wire bushes and M3x10mm vented screws. The four phases wires and thermocouple are a light fit in the hole of the bush. Use one in situations where a 'P' clip would be used in air. The wiring hole may be reamed out with hand tools for other wiring applications. Bakeable to 250°C.

Terminal Block

VTB6 is a 6-way 250°C bakeable terminal block suitable for use in UHV. Rating 2A per way, 200V, Maximum wire size is 1,5mm diameter. Compatible with all polyimide -covered wires. 50x10x8mm overall, fixings 3,5mmx42mm centres. Supplied with M3 stainless steel fixing screws, washers and nuts. The use of this block allows complex wiring looms to be nench-assembled before being installed in a vacuum chamber.

General characteristics of polyimide insulated wire (Kapton® wire)

Polyimide has excellent dielectric and mecahnical properties. It has good resistance to abrasion and is flexible at high and low temperatures. The outgassing is excellent and it loses adsorbed gas quickly during bakeout.

Polyimide covered wire is available in two basic forms: enamelled and film-wrapped. The enamelled wire has a thin coating and has the advantage of being radiation-resistant. The film-wrapped wire has much thicker insulation and is more suitable in applications where the wire is subject to movement.

Polyimide is naturally gold to pale brown in the range of thickness used: no organic dyes are added. All products of this type are supplied cleaned for UHV use.

Common Data - all types:
 

  • min bend radius 2mm
  • bakeable to 200°C. The insulation will remain intact up to 260°C but the outgassing performance will be permanently degraded
  • min temperatue <4,2°K. If used below 80°K the wire must not be allowed to flex, stretch or twist
  • outgassing products CO and H2 <1x10-12 mbar litres sec-1 metre-1 at 70°C after 12 hour bake at 200°C
KW3 wire
  • Polyimide enamelled OFHC copper wire. 10m length*
  • wire diameter 0,295mm, overall 0,314 to 0,331mm
  • resistance 0,25 ohm metre-1 at 20°C
  • Voltage rating 250V RMS
  • withstands gamma irradiation > 1x1010 Rad
KW6 wire
  • silver plated OFHC copper wire with two wrapped helical films of polyimide. The polyimide is sealed to itself with a fluorinated ethylene copolymer. 10m length*
  • wire diameter 0,6mm, overall 0,81 to 0,87mm
  • resistance 0,06 ohm metre-1 at 20°C
  • Voltage rating 600V RMS


KW9 wire

  • silver plated OFHC copper wire with two wrapped helical films of polyimide. The polyimide is sealed to itself with a fluorinated ethylene copolymer. 10m length*
  • wire diameter 0,9mm, overall 1,10 to 1,17mm
  • resistance 0,027 ohm metre-1 at 20°C
  • Voltage rating 600V RMS
Kapton wire (Polyimide wire)
KTK thermocouple
 
  • Chromel/Alumel type K thermocouple with a wrapped helical film of polyimide on each wire. The polyimide is sealed to itself with a fluorinated ethylene copolymer. The thermocopuple junction is exposed. Length 2m*.
  • wire dia 0,2mm, overall 0,4mm
  • tolerance: deviation <1° over -40°C to +230°C from BS4937 standard table

UHV compatible Kapton wire and coaxial cable from MPF 

MPF offers a wide variety of UHV compatible wires and coaxial cables. They come in standard length of 30Ft (ca. 10m) but can be cut to any length.
